چکیده

Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) is commonly used clinically to identify myocardial infarct or scar as a hyper-enhanced region. However, the blood pool also remains bright in such images, masking adjacent bright tissue. LGE has also been used extensively to image fibrosis in the left atrium (LA) in patients with atrial fibrillation. However, identification of LA wall in LGE is challenging due to the thin wall of LA and high signal of the blood pool in the LA. We recently developed a novel black-blood LGE (BB-LGE) sequence (Fig. 1) which uses an optimized combination of inversionrecovery and T2-preparation (T2-prep) prepulses to simultaneously null the healthy myocardium and blood signals by leveraging the higher T2 of blood. In this study, we sought to assess the feasibility of BB-LGE in imaging of LA.

Dependence of contrast to noise ratio between ablation scar and other tissues on patient heart rate and flip angle for late gadolinium enhancement imaging of the left atrium

Background Radiofrequency (RF) ablation of the left atrium (LA) and pulmonary vein ostia has become a clinically acceptable therapy for atrial fibrillation (AF). High-resolution 3D Late Gadolinium Enhancement (LGE) imaging can detect pre-ablation re-modeling of the LA wall and also visualize post-ablation scar in AF patients treated using RF ablation. The 3D Inversion Recovery prepared Gradient...

Contrast Optimization for LGE imaging of Left Atrium

Introduction: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely used technique to detect infarcted regions in left ventricle. Recently, it was shown that high-resolution 3D LGE imaging can detect pre-ablation re-modeling of the left atrial wall [1] in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and also visualize post-ablation scar [2,3] in the AF patients treated ...

Association of Left Atrial Local Conduction Velocity With Late Gadolinium Enhancement on Cardiac Magnetic Resonance in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation.

BACKGROUND Prior studies have demonstrated regional left atrial late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) heterogeneity on magnetic resonance imaging. Heterogeneity in regional conduction velocities is a critical substrate for functional reentry. We sought to examine the association between left atrial conduction velocity and LGE in patients with atrial fibrillation. METHODS AND RESULTS LGE imaging a...

Dark regions of no-reflow on late gadolinium enhancement magnetic resonance imaging result in scar formation after atrial fibrillation ablation.

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess acute ablation injuries seen on late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) immediately post-ablation (IPA) and the association with permanent scar 3 months post-ablation (3moPA). BACKGROUND Success rates for atrial fibrillation catheter ablation vary significantly, in part because of limited information about the location,...

Simulations for determining the optimal enhancement ratio threshold for segmentation of left atrial fibrosis

Background Segmentation of enhanced signal on late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) images of the eft atrium (LA) is required for characterizing left atrial fibrosis. However, the analysis is challenging, because the atrial fibrosis is not readily visually apparent. Recently, a study advocated using enhancement ratio (ER, atrial wall to blood) to segment the atrium, and found that an ER of 1.6 corr...
